How the day count works
The math is simple and honest: your day count is the number of whole days between the date you started and today. There is no signup, no account, and no clever tracking — just a date and today's date. Many people in recovery anchor the count to local midnight, so a new day is added when the calendar turns over, not on the exact hour you stopped.
Why counting days helps
A visible number turns something abstract — "I'm staying sober" — into something concrete you can hold onto on a hard afternoon. It is not about pressure or a perfect streak; it is a quiet reminder that the effort you have already put in is real and adds up. Milestones like 24 hours, one week, 30 days, 90 days, six months, and a year are worth noticing, because each one is a genuine accomplishment.
What if I have a slip?
A slip is not a moral failure, and it does not erase what you learned in the days before it. Some people reset the counter to the new date; others keep a separate lifetime total of every sober day they have banked, because those days genuinely happened and still count. There is no single "correct" way to do this — pick whichever framing keeps you moving forward rather than sinking into shame. What matters most is the next choice, not the last one.
Keep it with you
A page you have to remember to open is easy to forget. Twelva keeps your day count, milestones, and daily check-ins in one calm place on your phone — private by default — so the number is there when you need the encouragement, without you having to do the math.
Common questions
How do I calculate how many days sober I am?
Count the number of whole days between the day you started and today. The calculator on this page does it for you — enter your start date and it shows your exact day count, an approximate breakdown in months and years, and the days until your next milestone.
Does the sobriety counter reset if I relapse?
That is up to you. Some people reset to the new start date; others keep a running lifetime total of every sober day earned, since those days really happened. Neither approach is more "correct" — choose the one that keeps you encouraged rather than ashamed.
Is this sobriety calculator private?
Yes. It runs entirely in your browser using the date you enter. Nothing is stored on a server, sent anywhere, or shared. Closing the page clears it.

How to stay sober: the first 30 days
The first month is the hardest and the most important. You don't have to do it perfectly — you just have to get through today, and then do it again tomorrow.
Sobriety chips and milestones explained
A small coin in your pocket can carry a surprising amount of weight — a quiet, physical reminder of every day you chose recovery.
What does "one day at a time" mean?
The idea of "never again" can crush a person on day one. "Just today" is something almost anyone can carry.
